Urformen der Kunst (Art Forms in Nature)
Karl Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt (June 13, 1865 – December 9, 1932 - age 67) was a german photographer, artist and teacher. He was famous for his close-up pictures of plants and botanical life. He and his father were inspired by nature and the way plants grow. Blossfeldt took his photos with his homemade cameras which could zoom in to 30x its size which revealed a plants architectural structure. Blossfeldt was also an untrained photographer who could take photos with unprecedented detail and was inspired by the patterns, shapes and textures of the plant. Blossfeldt's photos were mainly used as teaching material for his students. He was first brought to public attention when he published his first book, Unformen der Kunst (Art Forms in Nature), which became an international bestseller making Blossfeldt rapidly famous.
